How much does it cost to move to Mallorca?

Cost factors, price ranges, and saving tips for your island move

The cost question tops every Mallorca move enquiry – and rightly so. Beyond the actual transport, you also need to factor in ferry charges, island delivery, and potentially extra services. On this page, we break down every cost component, provide realistic price guidance, and show where savings are possible.

One thing upfront: flat-rate price lists don't exist for international moves, because every move is different. What we can offer is transparency. Each of our quotes is clearly itemised – no hidden charges, no unpleasant surprises on moving day.

Full details on our service can be found on our Mallorca removals page. Tips on island life are in our guide: Emigrating to Mallorca.

What determines the cost of your move?

No two Mallorca moves are the same. To help you understand how the price is calculated, we've broken down the key cost drivers.

Moving volume

The biggest price lever. Whether it's a one-room flat at 10 m³ or a family home at 80 m³ – volume determines which vehicle is needed and how much loading space you require.

Transport type

Direct transport or shared load? With direct transport, the truck runs exclusively for you – faster, but pricier. With a shared load, you split freight costs with other shipments.

Ferry costs

The ferry from Barcelona or Valencia to Palma costs between €800 and €2,500 depending on the shipping line, season, and truck size. Off-season rates are significantly lower.

Island delivery

Central Palma is cheaper than a finca in the hills near Deià. Distance, floor level, and access routes all influence the delivery effort.

Additional services

Packing and unpacking, furniture assembly, no-parking zones, piano transport, or special packaging for antiques – all doable, but each service carries its own cost.

Timing

In summer (June–September), ferries are more expensive and demand is higher. Those with flexible schedules who move off-season save on ferry charges and can often secure cheaper shared-load slots.

Price ranges – what to expect

The following ranges serve as guidance. The actual price depends on the factors listed above and is calculated individually.

Individual items & boxes

from €350

up to approx. 5 m³ · shared load

Individual pieces, boxes, or a small remaining lot travelling as a shared load. Ideal when only a few items need to reach Mallorca.

Flat

from €1,500

10–25 m³ · shared or direct

One- to two-bedroom flat. Price varies by transport type and season. Shared loads sit at the lower end, direct transport at the upper.

House or large flat

from €5,500

30–50 m³ · direct transport

Full household contents from a house or large flat. Direct transport almost always makes sense here, as the volume fills the entire loading space.

All prices are non-binding estimates including transport insurance. More than 50 m³ or special requirements? We'll be happy to prepare a custom quote for you. For a binding fixed-price quote, contact us – the survey is free.

DIY move or hire a professional?

Anyone looking to save money quickly thinks about a DIY move. This can work – but has limits, particularly for an island move involving a ferry.

DIY move

  • Hire van + book ferry yourself (note: truck ferry tickets are significantly more expensive than car tickets)
  • No professional insurance cover – any damage is on you
  • Time investment: packing, loading, ferry, unloading – allow at least 3–4 days
  • On the island: unfamiliar access routes, narrow lanes, no pre-arranged no-parking zones

Professional move

  • Fixed price including ferry, loading, and delivery – no surprises
  • Full transport insurance under AMÖ conditions
  • Experienced team handles packing, assembly, and delivery on Mallorca
  • Local knowledge: own depot, access routes, and no-parking zone permits

For small shipments, DIY can make sense. From a two-room flat upwards, the advantages of a specialist carrier outweigh – not just on price, but especially on security and effort.

6 money-saving tips for your Mallorca move

With these tips you can significantly reduce the cost of moving to Mallorca – without compromising on quality.

Declutter before moving

Less volume = lower costs. Sell or give away what you won't need on Mallorca. Every cubic metre less saves real money.

Move off-season

From October to April, ferry prices are lower and scheduling is more flexible. Those who don't need to move in summer benefit from lower overall costs.

Shared load instead of direct

Our Mallorca shuttle runs weekly. If your timeline is flexible, a shared load saves you substantially compared to direct transport.

Buy bulky furniture locally

Some furniture costs more to transport than to buy new. Check whether it's cheaper to purchase bulky items like sofas or wardrobes on Mallorca.

Compare quotes

Get at least two quotes. Look not just at the bottom line, but also at what's included – insurance, packing, and ferry in particular.

Pack yourself

Packing yourself saves labour time. We're happy to provide suitable packing materials and explain what matters for break-proof packaging.
